Maya Yenn and Jasno release a glistening trance house remix for “How Much Sadness Can You Swallow?”

Jasno picks up the mantle with a thumping trance house take, getting delightfully weird with glistening synths and huge, groaning bass.

After the success of Maya Yenn’s sophomore single, the artist has released an atmospheric new remix of “How Much Sadness Can You Swallow?” from London-based electronic artist and producer, Jasno.

Building on the original version of How Much Sadness Can You Swallow?” – a hard-hitting, electro-pop track about a particularly intense nightmare Yenn had that she describes as “a vision of hell” – Jasno picks up the mantle with a thumping trance house take, getting delightfully weird with glistening synths and huge, groaning bass.

Yenn’s vocals dance hypnotically over Jasno’s intricate electronic tapestry. Bursting with bright, sparkling synth that bubbles and fizzes over a house beat, building to a seismic drop that’s teased throughout.

“I was on a 90s techno vibe at the time!” Jasno admitted. “In the beginning, I played around with the idea of a longer house track, but realized it was a bit too meandering. During that time, I was listening to a lot of electronic music from Poland and thought it would be interesting to try some of the things I was hearing in this remix.”

Maya Yenn is an alt-pop artist, producer and composer hailing from the Midlands. Her self-directed music video for “How Much Sadness Can You Swallow?” won “Best Music Video” at the British Independent Film Festival this year and her most recent release, “Better Luck Next Time” was picked up by Tom Robinson for the BBC Introducing Mixtape and was Gemma Bradley’s BBC Introducing Pick of the Week on BBC Radio 1.

On the other hand, Jasno is an electronic artist, producer, composer and sound engineer based in London. Aswell as releasing his own music independently, he works prolifically in film and theatre, having previously composed for short film, “The Circle” which was longlisted for Bafta Best British Short Film and was the winner of the parliamentary award Film The House. As a recording engineer at 5dB Studios, Jasno worked on sessions with the likes of Dua Lipa, Kevin Parker, Jeff Bhasker, Danny L Harle and Andrew Watt.

Yenn approached Jasno to create the remix after the release of his debut single, “New Sky” with Lula Mebrahtu (Lula.Xyz) having previously formed a friendship in London.

Yenn said about her collaborator, “Jasno and I have a very similar relationship to music. He’s also an incredibly generous spirit as a collaborator; his enthusiasm for creating is always so infectious and energising, it was an easy choice to hand over the reins to him for the remix. I’m just very grateful he said yes!”

In response, Jasno offered, “I think any producer worth their salt would struggle not to say yes to a remix given the amazing writing and production of Maya's original track.”
